The Friends of the Library wish to thank all who attended our chili feed fundraiser with Duluth author Lucie B. Amundsen on October 21. Lucie was a thoroughly entertaining and informative speaker. She describes herself as a writer, speaker and reluctant farmer. Her book, Locally Laid: How We Built A Plucky Industry-Changing Egg Farm – From Scratch, was the winner of the 2016 Midwest Choice Award for Nonfiction. The library has two copies of her book so you can reserve a copy for yourself today.
The chili feed was also a time to showcase the Friends. Their mission statement is “to promote literacy for all ages, provide support for the library and to encourage the entire community to know and use its valuable resources.” They use proceeds from their events to fulfill that mission and each year ask the librarian, Patti Meyer, for a “wish list” of what the library needs to enhance its offerings. In previous years, funds have been used for book purchases, public laptops, audio equipment, and books for the early childhood literacy program, “Grow A Reader.” During the chili feed, the Friends presented a check in the amount of $1500 to Patti for the purchase of books and audio materials for the library.
In addition, The Friends host local authors during the spring and summer months. Their used book sale, held at the library on the second Saturday of every month, helps to encourage readers by getting more books into the community at very moderate prices.
The Friends wish to thank the following individuals and businesses who donated funds, silent auction items, or their time to support the chili feed and library. They are: Ace Hardware, Amelia’s Homestead Café, Burnett Dairy, Cabin Corner, Café Moonglow, Carole Fure, Daefflers, Fishbowl Insurance, Fresh Start Coffee Roasters, Four Winds, Fox Run, Gandy Dancer Books, George Meyer, Gladys Beers, Karen Hanson, Lucy Basler, Mariann Erickson, North Sand Photography, Northwest Passage, St Croix Casino Danbury, The Forts Folle Avoine, The Granary, Village of Webster and Debra Doriott-Reineccius, Webster Cog and Sprocket, Webster Fire Dept and Chief Allen Steiner, Webster Lions, and Yellow River Pharmacy.
And, finally, our sincere thanks to our speaker, Lucie B. Amundsen for sharing her chicken stories, insights, and humor. She was very impressed by the library and the efforts devoted to support its service to the community.

The Friends of the Larsen Family Public Library, at their May meeting, donated $1500 to the library to augment the books and materials in the children’s area. The Friends were able to raise these funds through proceeds from our monthly used book sales (held the second Saturday of each month), and from last year’s chili feed. We wish to thank all who helped make these donations possible.

The Friends of the Larsen Family Public Library (Webster, WI) held their 4th annual chili feed fundraiser last Saturday night (October 15). Our guest speakers were Twin Cities mystery authors Ellen Hart & Carl Brookins. It was a fun and successful evening. We raised over $1500 for the library. Carl Brookins captured it perfectly when he said this on his Facebook page: "Last evening, Ellen Hart and I were the guest program for a hundred plus folks at the Webster, Wisconsin, town hall. The event was a fundraiser for their magnificent library. We ate chili. And bars and cookies. It was all yummy. Ellen and I had a great time talking about mystery fiction, writing, modern-day publishing and the folks in attendance were attentive, enthusiastic, and engaged."
The Friends of the Larsen Family Public Library gratefully thank Burnett Dairy, Daeffler's Quality Meats, Forts Folle Avoine, For Winds Market, Fox Run Golf Course, Francyne Maki, Leah Berg, Mariann Erickson, North Sand Photography, Northwest Passage (In a New Light), Pat and Lucy Basler, Ron & Dorothy Reis, Schmitz's Economart, , The Granary, The Lodge, Webster Lions, and those who attended for their support of our Chili Feed & Author Event. We also extend our sincere thanks to our speakers, Ellen Hart and Carl Brookins for sharing their stories and humor.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to the library for books and library supplies. Again, thanks to all who helped make this a successful event.
